Financial inclusion: 5.7 million subscribers for Orange Money

Djébonoua (Ivory Coast) – Launched around ten years ago, Orange Money Côte d'Ivoire, the Orange Group's mobile money transfer and payment service platform, has so far recorded nearly 5.7 million million subscribers, announced Friday its Managing Director, Marius Yao at the launch of the scaling phase of the productive social safety nets project.

"It's been almost ten years since we took the crazy gamble on financial inclusion by launching Orange Money, the first-ever basic financial service bundle accessible from the mobile phone," said Yao, adding that 'today' with more than 5.7 million subscribers, Orange Money is part of the everyday life of the Ivorians who have adopted it as the main tool for transferring money and payment ''.

Last November, during the laying of the cornerstone of the new headquarters of the Orange Group in Abidjan, the Minister of Communication, Digital Economy and Post, Bruno Nabagne Koné had pointed out that the number of subscribers to mobile phone grew from 16 million in 2011 to 30 million in 2016, for 15 million Internet users and 15 billion FCFA transactions per day for Mobile money which generates more than 200,000 jobs and more than 1000 billion FCFA of turnover ''.

'' These results obtained by all mobile phone operators with Orange Côte d'Ivoire have enabled Côte d'Ivoire to gain 32 places in the ranking index of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) 2015 to 2016, 'said Koné.
